West Central Region, Saskatchewan
Go back in time to the place of ancient tipi rings and
medicine wheels, major fur trade routes and the signing of
the historical treaties between First Nations and the
Government of Canada. Discover the heart of a rich heritage,
from Métis culture and the first capital of the Northwest
Territories, to the clash of forces in the North West
Resistance.
Wanuskewin Heritage Park interprets 6,000 years of Plains
Indian culture. North of Saskatoon, the history of the North
West Resistance of 1885 is told at Batoche and Battleford
National Historic Sites and Fort Carlton and Fort Pitt
Provincial Historic Parks. Guided horseback riding trips,
birdwatching, nature walks and more are favourite outdoor
activities. Major urban centres include Saskatoon,
Battlefords and Lloydminster.
