Morelos, Mexico
Tourism Information
Located in the southern portion of
Mexico’s central
region in a zone with a warm tropical climate. Morelos has
valley regions, lakes that supply the state with water, and
mountain chains covered with forests.
In this fertile territory you can discover the beauty of
protected areas like Lagunas de Zempoala National Park,
which has seven lagoons that are fed by underground rivers
in which you can go diving. Here you can also do ecotourism
outings and mountain bike riding in the coniferous forests.
If you’re looking for something more adventurous, you can do
a rafting trip on the Amacuzac River, especially during the
rainy season when the rapids are more challenging.
To get away from it all for a relaxing vacation, Cuernavaca,
the state capital, offers excellent hotels, rivers and
swimming holes near the Ex-Hacienda de Temixco and the
Ex-Hacienda de Las Estacas. Also in Cuernavaca, known as the
City of Eternal Spring, you can go golfing or hit the spa
resorts for a massage and other therapeutic treatments.
After the relaxing experience at the spa, check out
Cuernavaca’s magnificent gardens, museums, churches and
colonial structures. The city also has various bars where
you can enjoy a bohemian atmosphere. If you’d like to learn
more about the state’s history and culture, visit the
Xochicalco archaeological site, declared a World Heritage
Site by the UNESCO, and the ruins of Tepozteco, in Tepoztlan.
There you can go to a spa and then visit the markets, where
they sell esoteric souvenirs and various crafts.
