Gjoa Haven (Uqsuqtuuq, "place of plenty of fat") The
English name honours the fact that the explorer Roald
Amundsen overwintered his little ship, the Gjoa, in the
inlet here,calling it "the best little harbour in the
world". This is the nearest community to where the Franklin
Expedition perished, and attracts history buffs from around
the world. The Northwest Passage Trail is a self guided
walhing trail describing the quest of dozens of explorers.
